Chinese Car Company Adopts Panda (7th February, 2010)

A giant panda arrived in China from the USA on Friday and immediately became rich. The Chinese car maker Sichuan agreed to adopt the panda, Tai Shan, for the rest of his life. The auto company paid around $150,000 to look after Tai Shan. The company must now pay for the panda’s food, medical care and other daily expenses. A Sichuan spokesman said Tai Shan would act as the company’s ambassador. He said Tai Shan will give the company a better image and help it become more famous around the world.

The car company is getting a good deal from Tai Shan. It will get lots of publicity for many years. Tai Shan will become a celebrity in China and perhaps all over the world. Everyone loves pandas and this will help Sichuan sell cars. The adoption cost of $150,000 is very small. Advertising on TV, in newspapers or on the Internet is much more expensive. Tai Shan will give the car company several decades of free publicity. Maybe more companies will start adopting animals. I wonder what animal Microsoft or Coca Cola could adopt.
