World’s Oldest Dog Dies at 147

The world’s oldest dog has died aged 147. That’s in “dog years”, not human years. She was 21 years old in our years. Her name was Chanel and she was a dachshund (also known as a sausage dog). Chanel’s owners, Denice and Karl Shaughnessy, were very sad at the death of their pet. They said she was a part of their life for so many years. Mrs Shaughnessy told reporters that Chanel, who loved chocolate, lived a long time because she was blessed by God. "Dogs are God's angels sent here to look out for us," she said.

It’s amazing that Chanel lived so long. Especially because she loved chocolate, and had other unhealthy habits. Her owners did take her for a walk every day, so she got exercise. She really was part of the family. I wonder if Chanel knew she was so old. I’m not sure if I want to be that old. People who live to be 100 or more see many changes in their life. They are almost like a walking history book. People who are over 100 today can remember life before cars. New medicine will make more of us live longer and longer.
