North Africa’s second metro opened on Monday in Algeria’s , Algiers. The ten-station, 6.5km line opened 28 years work on it first began. Work began on the subway in 1982. However, the civil and a poor economy slowed its construction.

The cost of a ticket is 50 dinars ($0.67), which many Algiers residents is too high. Transport Minister Amar Tou said the fare is 84 dinars, but the government is the tickets cheaper. The locals be unhappy with the cost of traveling, but they are very with the trains, which will 300,000 passengers a day. Abdul Hamid, an worker, said: “I can’t the metro is finally open. I’ve waited my life to use it.”
