A small but number of Japanese people are suffering ‘Paris Syndrome’. This is the shock they when their experience of Paris is not what they it would be. Many Japanese have a image of the French . They think they will have the holiday if they visit it. However, things a language barrier and perhaps a taxi driver can turn the fantasy holiday into a disaster. This some people and causes them to have a mental breakdown.

Paris Syndrome was discovered in 1986 by Japanese psychiatrist Professor Hiroaki Ota. He said a of negative experiences happening at the time creates in the Japanese tourist. These include language and cultural difficulties, changes in mood in Paris, and jet lag. Many Japanese just five days flying and from Paris and trying to see and everything in the few days between the long-haul . The Japanese embassy in Paris helps a dozen people a year with Paris Syndrome.
