A top British documentary maker has said 3D TV will only be popular for big events like the soccer World Cup. Sir David Attenborough said people thought television was a miracle when it first came out, but now people use it as background sound and vision. He believes that people might be wrong to think 3D will change our viewing, saying: “I think 3D TV is going to be event TV. It can be an international football match, or it can also be an important programme.” He added we will only watch programmes that “require your attention”.

Sir David has been working in television since 1952. He is perhaps the world’s greatest maker of wildlife documentaries. The film-maker believes 3D TV will not become the normal way to watch television. He said the special glasses make it “too isolating”. But TV manufacturers disagree. They believe 3D TV is the future. All the major electronics brands are now selling 3D TV sets. There is something that could discourage people from watching 3D TV. Medical research shows it can cause eye strain, headaches, and nausea and sickness.
